R.I.P. Warren Schor

“I can’t believe you’re gone.”

Feels like you hear that all the time.

Shit, I wish so bad this wasn’t true, but I’ve said it before.

Yet for some reason, when Warren passed, it just felt new again.

Different.

The feeling behind those words have really taken on a life of their own.

It’s inconceivable to me that I’ll never get a chance to see Warren again.

That I only had so much time to see him again.

FUCK!

So unfair!!

Why Warren?

Of all people... why Warren?

He deserved so much better.

So much better.

He was the best of us.

I’ll never forget you, Warren.

R.I.P.

Service for Warren Schor planned for Monday, September 14

Many of you will already have heard that Warren Schor, son of Andy Schor '67 and Maxine Schor, passed away on Friday, September 11. A member of the Hackley Class of 2007, Warren was beginning his junior year at Cornell University.

A four-year boarder at Hackley, Warren lived near Rhinebeck, NY, where he enjoyed horseback riding and acquired a great love of "the farm." He was studying Agriculture at Cornell. Warren served as a class representative for the Class of 2007, helping keep classmates in touch as they moved on into their college years.

I have been in touch with Andy Schor, and have shared the Hackley community's deep sorrow for his family's loss.

Cornell University President David Skorton, in his statement to the Cornell community and to the press, said:

"It is with deepest sadness and regret that I inform you of the loss of one of our students today at Cayuga Medical Center. Warren J. Schor, 20, died of complications related to H1N1 influenza. The university has been in close contact with Warren's family, and we wish to convey our heartfelt condolences to them and to his many friends. Please keep them in your thoughts in the following days.

"We ask everyone to be alert to the risks related to certain underlying health conditions and the more severe symptoms that should trigger prompt consultation with your health care provider."

Andy has told me there will be a memorial service at the JCC (Jewish Community Center) of White Plains on Monday. As of 2:30 Sunday, we had not heard back from Andy as to a specific time, but will send an update once we have more information, or you may call the JCC directly on Monday morning.

You may write Andy and Maxine Schor at 174 Jamison Hill Road, Clinton Corners, NY 12514.

Please join us in offering support to Warren's family in this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Walter Johnson

Service scheduled for 1:00 pm, Monday, 9/14

We have learned from Andy Schor's friend and Hackley classmate Mat Gluckson '67 that the service for Warren will begin promptly at 1:00 pm at Congregation Kol Ami (formerly known as JCC), 252 Soundview Ave., White Plains, on Monday, September 14.

We have also learned from Warren's Hackley and Cornell classmate Chris Vandivort '07 that Warren was majoring in Applied Economics and Management (the Business major at Cornell), with a focus in Accounting.

Sincerely,

Walter Johnson
